The tension of learning lessons.

Check your Sidereal Rising and Moon signs below (and if you don't know them, but do know your birth date, time AND place, email me at kochisjohnathanj@gmail.com and I can get you your chart OR you can figure it out yourself here).
If you want to learn more about what this "transitional reading" I speak about is, please see my guide to divination with the I Ching here.
I have a free version of James Legge’s I Ching translation here. Also: For a free translation of the I Ching that I rely on (and I recommend if you want to see the lines that make up these readings), check this copy by the late, great, Bradford Hatcher.

How To Use The Yearly Horoscopes
You can read just for your Sidereal Rising and Moon signs, however, what I do (and what I recommend) is reading for each house in your chart. For example, as a Libra Rising, I would look at that horoscope for my 1st house topics for the year, Scorpio for my 2nd house topics, Sagittarius for my 3rd, etc.

The Horoscope For Everyone
Reading:
Hexagram 38.1.4 > 4
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 38.1 > 64.4 > 4
-
1) The Reality
The Three
Expect to not have the wisdom to expect everything. What's gone will return. You might think the first fit is the best fit if something is being removed, but regardless, if there's work ahead of you, make sure you move ahead.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
Something, or someone, might be malicious (is it you?), as you ask "what if's." Just observe what arises, and respond like a leader would.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect temptation to be very clear.
Don’t expect negotiation to hold power.
The reward is the gift of a new opportunity.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Figure out how to be the version of wind that's "proper" for your particular circumstances.
More And Less
Do more of what's tragic, and less of not being close.
Think "student" and stop thinking "damage."

Aries Rising/Aries Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 5.1.5 > 46
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 5.1 > 48.5 > 46
-
1) The Reality
The Three
Move ahead by waiting in the cut. If you're choosing a new path, do your best to make it a safe path. Acknowledge your role in this, and if a door needs to be closed at the crossroads, accept the benefits, even if a toe, or finger gets slammed in the process.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
In a return, you or another may be a stranger in the situation. Contemplate, while doing your best to make sure envy isn't on the other side of all of the contemplating (even though it probably will be).
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect to be tempted by a meeting.
Don’t expect a new opportunity involving resurrection.
The reward is alone-ness being initiated.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Give things time to come out in the wash. And maybe you'll find that you like the accidental tie-dye that results.
Accept what you've gained.
More And Less
Do more accepting, and less working.
Think searching, instead of "student."
—
The Experience
One time that I had this reading was when I asked what my "job" was on 5/1/21. 5.1 is about waiting on the outside, giving things time, and that's what I did as I waited until it was time to go to dinner (which was the advance of 46). And 5.5 is usually about choosing a less mature, or new option, while the actual translation speaks of "Waiting at wine and food." Of course, that represents what I actually did: eat, just minus the wine. The transitional line of 48.5, relatedly, speaks of tapping into a resource, which was the case with dinner, though, I only stayed at the restaurant for an hour.

Taurus Rising/Taurus Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 34.5.6 > 1
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 34.5 > 43.6 > 1
-
1) The Reality
The Three
The potential that comes with giving up an apparent advantage. The good thing is that you won't have any regrets about this particular surrender. If you're stuck in place on the conveyor belt, plan for a falling sky to be safe, but yell out for help before it gets to that point.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
There's a delay here, but it's a family affair. If you see an "enemy," just proceed.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect open-mindedness about urgency.
Don’t expect movement involving what’s fruitless.
The reward is regret over a rejection.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Keep your eyes on the rulebook, and keep your behavior within the parameters. Don't act out of character, even if you feel like you're in the wrong story.
Stay humble, and open-minded.
More And Less
Do more withdrawing, and less animosity.
Think possession, rather than loss.
—
The Experience
One time that I received this reading was on 3/18/21, when I asked what would happen if I cast a sigil to receive more referrals to my Patreon. I did cast that one, and the ultimate outcome of it is amusing to me.
As a sentence, we can call this reading "Standing Your Ground's Potential." Whenever I see hexagram 1, I expect a whole lot of "could've been." That alone could have been one giveaway to what would happen.
With 34.5 you have a line that tells you that you're giving up an advantage of some sort, but you won't regret doing it. This is relevant because I ended up shutting down my Patreon tiers on September 30th 2021. With 34.6, you're told that you can't go backward, or forward, and you kind of just have to stay in place for the time being, which is pretty much what happened after casting the sigil. The transitional line of 43.6 can be about how not opening your mouth can leave you coming up empty-handed. And because I didn't have the heart to push the Patreon as much as I could have this week, it didn't end up as successful as it possibly could have been.

Gemini Rising/Gemini Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 22.1.5.6 > 39
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 22.1 > 52.5 > 53.6 > 39
-
1) The Reality
The Three
If you're standing in front of a large rock, kickstart things, even if this is the "hard" way. Try to instruct, or direct using the little you have, but just try to arrange the words carefully before they come barreling out of your mouth. You didn't do anything wrong, even if it feels like a loss, so just know that you're gonna transcend whatever *this* is.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
In the midst of friendship, accept the rejection. Try to win, and win others over, with your words, and actions. But expect to feel something is "missing."
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect to accept what you already knew was going to happen.
Don’t expect a curse you’ll cooperate with.
The reward is your (Spirit) Team bringing with them some relaxation.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
If you're thinking about gains, just make sure your actions are focused on following the appropriate path (which is likely the same path).
Your job may involve the perfect rejection.
More And Less
Do more of being a student, and less with maliciousness.
Think disagreement, rather than "not yet."
—
The Experience
Instead of breaking down the one past reading I've had for this, which is still in progress, I'll talk through each part. As a sentence, this would be "Superficiality's Obstacle."
22.1 is usually always about going about things in a more straightforward, direct, and possibly, difficult way, rather than taking any shortcuts.
With 22.5, you don't have a whole lot to offer, but it still doesn't end negatively for you. The transitional line of 52.5 is a recommendation to choose your words, and how you communicate those words, carefully.
For 22.6, you may feel like you're taking a loss, and could be in a compromising situation you should do some reflecting on, while 53.6 is about transcending the situation entirely, usually in a way that's not initially visible.
If we look at the Change Patterns, we have Yang 42, and Yin 32. So, this is a question of an increase, or gain, and the advice is to keep things steady, on the same path you've been on.
As a whole, this reading seems to emphasize that the way to deal with whatever the obstacle is in your Gemini house by doing things thoughtfully, carefully, and without expecting any big, or sudden changes. By putting care, and effort into it all, the concern may become an afterthought by the end of the year.

Cancer Rising/Cancer Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 56.1.2 > 14
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 56.1 > 30.2 > 14
-
1) The Reality
The Three
You've got something valuable here, but you may also have a tendency of trying to do too much. And you know what's actually essential to get done, but you might still not do it. Get some assistance in perceiving things correctly if you're unsettled, because the reality might not be under the right light for "right view."
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
It's about work, and there may be an imbalance to think about. If there's a new face, or faces, do your best to avoid clinging too hard.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect an imbalance of stillness.
Don’t expect any prayers involving punishment.
The reward is a blocking of receptivity.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
You can have some control in the situation by pulling back from what you know you need to pull back from.
There may be a weakness found in a death you have to endure.
More And Less
Do more focusing and less disappointment.
Think with an open-mind, instead of thinking "forever."
—
The Experience
I had this reading most recently when I asked what my job was for 10/5/21. After letting myself indulge in junk food over the weekend, I was looking at my abdomen, knowing I'd have to make amends for my choices. Not only that, but I was dragging my feet on some things I needed to do, which included writing these horoscopes for 2025. That whole situation was likely the 56.1 in the reading.
56.2 and 30.2 was likely me enlisting the help of my partner with some difficulties I was having. The help would be 56.2, while the help causing me to see things with a little more clarity (though, not a ton) would have been the 30.2.
The relating hexagram, 14, is about what you possess. And that day I was putting to use what I did have available to me. While the Yin Pattern of 33 accurately described me withdrawing from just about everything else for the time being.

Leo Rising/Leo Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 23.1.3.4 > 30
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 23.1 > 27.3 > 22.4 > 30
-
1) The Reality
The Three
See it all clearly, and try to accept what you already know about what might be getting removed. If you're losing something that sustained you, be real with yourself and accept that you have, and had a role in it too. You may be trimming in the name of progress, but put some restrictions in place now, because the future you see in a potential connection probably isn't as rosy as the picture your mind is painting.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
Get your magnifying glass out, and look at the "reward." Then do the same with any strangers before it comes to any intimacy.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect a struggle relating to delusion.
Don’t expect an experiment involving possession.
The reward is a response relating to following.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Give something up, even if it means going it a bit solo. If help is needed, make sure the helpful hear about it.
And feel peace through forgiveness.
More And Less
Do more with family and less "disgust."
Think perfection instead of "surprise."
—
The Experience
I don't have an example to go with this reading, so we'll break it down. As a sentence, this is "Removal's Clarity." 23.1 often tells you to trust what you already know about what's being lost, while 23.3 tells you that you're playing an active role in the removing, of whatever is being removed. The transitional line of 27.3 is about rejecting what was once nourishing, as things get reformulated.
23.4 often tells me that something is being removed because of the belief that it will lead to progress of some sort. And the final transitional line of 22.4 is a warning to not see anyone, or anything as some Knight in Shining Armor to save the day.
With a Yang Pattern of 55, this is a question of making a sacrifice of some sort without feeling bad about it, and the advice of Yin Pattern 59 is to offer up something to transcend the present state, even if it leads you to going it alone.
The reading as a whole says to me that you can see clearly that something is being lost, and shouldn't lie to yourself if you already have evidence of it. But another aspect is to be careful about being too aggressive in doing so, because whatever end result you're building up in your mind probably isn't all that it's cracked up to be.

Virgo Rising/Virgo Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 43 Unchanging (43 uc)
-
1) The Reality
The Three
If you're after something new, share what you have to share, or give up the advantages at your disposal. Put your truth out there. But that truth doesn't have to be a weapon.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
An offer might lead to a new crowd. Watch, and then try to win others over.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect a reward being lost.
Don’t expect set-in-stone immaturity.
The reward is persuasion involving conflict.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Why do you want to communicate that? Think about it before making any declarations.
Your job may be feeling disappointment over persuasion.
More And Less
Do more being jealous and less forgiving.
Think meeting instead of "new crowd."
—
The Experience
One example of this reading comes from an hour on 5/10/21. 43 unchanging is about speaking your truth, in many cases. For the time period I received this I was replying to a survey about a course I purchased, and also tweeted one of my favorite arguments: that the tech world should read some Ajahn Chah instead of the tech philosophers that bastardize Buddhist beliefs. Not only that, I also updated a page on Two Dreams. So, there was a lot of using words, and making my message heard, and trying to avoid being *too* contentious as I did it.

Libra Rising/Libra Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 45.5 > 16
-
1) The Reality
The Three
There may be a "feeling out" period. If you don't know whether to trust someone, or whether they trust you, just stay persistent. And stick to your principles while you do.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
Sadness is normal when it's paired with rejection. This is about as permanent as permanent gets ... until it's followed by a resurrection.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect silence involving a removal.
Don’t expect a stranger and a transition.
The reward is magic’s deja vu moment.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
If you've got a spark, then protect it. Win the fire over to your side.
And when it comes to writing, follow.
More And Less
Do more of being an enemy, and less meeting.
Think reward instead of thinking about repair.
—
The Experience
One time that I received this reading by itself was on 6/17/21, when I was showing a team member of mine a criminal record search process. 45.5 tells you that there's not enough trust between you and another party at the moment, which was accurate, because this was brand new for them.
But another aspect of 45.5 is the recommendation that you just keep doing the right things to let that trust build up naturally over time. And by the end of the hour, there was enough trust that they could begin doing the work on their own.

Scorpio Rising/Scorpio Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 27 Unchanging (27 uc)
-
1) The Reality
The Three
Use your senses if you're thinking about taking something in, or opening your mouth. It's your body, and your life, so it's gotta be your responsibility. If you're willing to let something go untouched it might turn out well for you.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
Just persist. Things may be cursed, but they're even. Take away the wisdom you can from it.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect a message involving magic.
Don’t expect communication to be in possession.
The reward is being mature about a conflict.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
What do you want more of, and what do you need more of? It'll be important to understand the difference between those two answers if you're figuring out what to consume.
Your job may be clinging to a partner.
More And Less
Do more sacrificing and less responding.
Think distraction instead of relaxing.
—
The Experience
27 unchanging is often a very literal hexagram. And it was when I received it for an hour on 4/30/21. I was actually eating, and then I went to a place here in Denver called Choice Market, and got a few more things for my weekend.
You may not get this reading in a way that relates to food, but just like deciding what to put in your body, this reading can be a reminder to be careful about what you bring into your life. What do you have an appetite for, and should you take it in, or give it up. That's always important to ask when you see 27.
--
Sagittarius Rising/Sagittarius Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 39.2.6 > 57
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 39.2 > 48.6 > 57
-
1) The Reality
The Three
Adjust, and fit in where you get in. This isn't your fault, or their fault, or even "fault," it just "is." Commit to where you stand, and share what you've got despite the intensity, but try to restrict things a bit where you can.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
Things are blocked, so play it safe, because something is teaching here. You'll have power by the end of it.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect hesitation about any resources.
Don’t expect subordination that comes with sadness.
The reward is being trapped involving a conception.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Let things change. And even if you can't see it happening at the start, just know that it is.
Keep an open-mind, and relax.
More And Less
Do more praying and less blocking.
Think magic instead of moving forward.
—
The Experience
An example of this reading comes from 5/22/21. My partner was in the other room and wasn't feeling too good (definitely the 39.2 in the reading), while I was writing horoscopes, and feeling good about the results. The latter definitely describes 39.6's aspect of committing to where you are to attack an obstacle, as well as 48.6's element of busying yourself, and sharing what you have to offer.
The Yang Pattern of hexagram 4 is about being a little in the dark, while the Yin Pattern of 49 advises you to basically allow change to happen. Which is what it did when I ended the hour with at least some productive work.

Capricorn Rising/Capricorn Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 12.3.5.6 > 62
Transitional Reading:
Hexagrams 12.3 > 33.5 > 56.6 > 62
-
1) The Reality
The Three
Don't try to achieve everything, and accept any shame or embarrassment that comes with it. Let yourself be led in this withdrawal, and accept the time limit that's in place. A bridge may turn to ashes, but pick your words carefully, and a separation of some sort may come to an end.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
Put up some prayers for this obstacle. You might seen an enemy in the middle of it all, and a new grouping by the end of it.
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect a rejection in a response.
Don’t expect to move forward with a sabotage.
The reward is possessing delusion.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
Look at things that are built to last to understand what things aren't. You may be a little powerless here, but if you choose what's mature, don't expect to have the power to make a ton happen.
There's progress for your to experience with a partnership, though.
More And Less
Do more with attraction, and less with the tragic.
Think "blocked" instead of acceptance.
—
The Experience
I don't have any record of receiving this reading in the past, so we'll talk it through. As a sentence, this would be "Separation's Conscientiousness."
12.3 is a sign that you'll feel embarrassed, or ashamed about *something*. And you kind of just have to deal with that feeling. With 12.5 there's a time limit to things, and you can't really stop the separation from happening. 33.5 might show that you're going back and forth between a couple options, but that you should pull back, regardless.
12.6 is advice to focus on what's good in the situation, rather than what's bad, so that any separation will naturally come to an end. And the final transitional line of 56.6 is usually a sign that a bridge will be burned in some form or fashion.
A Yang Pattern of 53 means this will be a gradual process, while a Yin Pattern of 54 tells you that you may not be in a position of power in this particular situation, and to accept your fate in that regard.
Looking at the reading as a whole, I'd say to be extra careful, and extra respectful if you and another party are parted. Don't try to be heavy-handed, don't try to force things, and accept that you may not be in the driver's seat with your Capricorn house this year.
--
Aquarius Rising/Aquarius Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 9.2 > 37
-
1) The Reality
The Three
You're coming back to the road you need to be on. Not everyone can fill this particular role, but you can. Trust that what you believe is falling off, will be falling off, so you can spend your time a little more productively than sitting there wondering.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
You can initiate things, even if they start out confused. Malice might be a thing here. Are you being selfish?
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect peace about a meeting.
Don’t expect to be trapped in something out-of-balance.
The reward is a withdrawal’s uncertainty.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
As you come back to something, think about what belongs and what doesn't. A sort of "does this bring joy" kind of exercise.
And be patient with a change of location.
More And Less
Do more resting, and less of what's pointless.
Think meeting rather than sacrificing.
—
The Experience
One example of this reading comes from 7/15/21. I was doing a number of readings, but I think this reading played out when I began reading about the new developments in the Cindy Rivera case (I'll tell the story about why the case matters to me another time), and learned that the father of her children killed himself, and essentially finally confessed to her murder. The case had been on my mind since it popped into my life three years earlier, so that was me being led back to a significant thing in my life, though, 9.2 may play out less dramatically for your Aquarius house.

Pisces Rising/Pisces Moon
Reading:
Hexagram 45 Unchanging (45 uc)
-
1) The Reality
The Three
When disaster strikes it's usually because it wasn't seen until it wanted your attention. Know where you're going with all of this, and know what you gotta give up. Also: know where your self-defense weapons are.
The Practical Oracle Adds ...
There's a gift here, but expect a delay that leaves you disgusted. And then prepare to hear another "not yet."
Will And Won’t And Win
Expect to hit the target when it comes to being motionless.
Don’t expect a tragedy that builds up.
The reward is craving a decision.
2) How You Should Shape It
The Prescription
What would need to be true for this to be the worst year for your Pisces house? Once you have a list you'll know what to guard against.
The right direction might be its own form of a tragedy.
More And Less
Do more possession and less investigation.
Think "not this," rather than conception.
—
The Experience
One example of 45 unchanging comes from 2/9/21. It was during an hour I spent following up with another department about some problems we were having with a client, and also following up with a team member of mine about some lower productivity numbers I was seeing with them.
With 45 unchanging, you have to guard against potential disaster. With trying to get a client issue resolved, and trying to keep any team issues from getting worse, I was doing just that for this particular hour.
