Their Purpose #1: Pharrell Williams

‘Their Purpose’ is a series designed to showcase real world versions of my 'Find Your Purpose' reading service, which you can purchase and receive a more in-depth analysis than you'll find with the people in these posts.

In this series you'll find Life Purpose and Greatest Strength I Ching readings for public figures, though, I'll be excluding readings about their Greatest Weakness, as I don't believe it's my place to make that particular information public.

Let's begin:

Pharrell Williams' Life Purpose

Reading: Hexagram 7.2.6 > 23

Transitional Reading: Hexagrams 7.2 > 7.6 > 2.6 > 23

I think this is a very interesting reading for Pharrell given what he's said publicly about his past.

There was a time when the world found him to be even more enviously ostentatious. I mean, just think about his Donatella Versace brag on "Mr. Me Too."

But in 2019, Pharrell expressed some regrets over things like his 'Gangsta Grillz' mixtape, and his language on "Blurred Lines."

This reading, which can be described with the sentence 'Mission's Removal' speaks a bit to that.

7.2 is often a reminder that new information will come in to change your perspective. The backlash to the aforementioned Robin Thicke song is one example of that. Another is likely his natural maturation process as a person.

This internal struggle is one we all go through, but it's clearly indicated with Hexagram 7.6 and 2.6. With the former, you're advised to cut off who or what isn't the right fit, and Heagram 2.6 is a classic devil on one shoulder, angel on the other line. It generally indicates a struggle between warring opposites, or options, described in the language of two battling dragons.

Lastly, Hexagram 23, is a figure I (and others) call 'Removal'.

This can be seen as the peeling away of the unwanted elements of his personality, all the way down to the legendary medallions that Drake later claimed to melt down after purchasing them from Pharrell.

It's clear to me that, according to the I Ching, Pharrell's purpose was to do his own 180.

He went from acquiring and accumulating the trappings of a man that's made hits with generation after generation of superstars, to realizing that maybe he needs to embody something a little more close to the Earth.

And maybe this will always be a back-and-forth struggle he'll have to deal with. But he's proven he can do it.

Pharrell Williams' Greatest Strength

Reading: Hexagram 20 Unchanging (20 uc)

Hexagram 20 is what I call 'Observation'.

While Kanye West's greatest weakness may have been the Hexagram 43 (Decisiveness), or Hexagram 51 (Shock) in him, Pharrell has been more of a strategically silent personality.

While still extremely confident, he seemed to carefully curate his public presence and statements.

There's not really a hexagram in the I Ching dedicated to hearing, so there's nothing to easily confirm that he has an ear that's made him a living, but his vision has allowed him to spark visual trends, while also taking in necessary information without shortsighted shouting.

And this ability to watch more than he speaks has won him enough allies that he was awared the Louis Vuitton Creative Direction position despite not being a traditional designer. Though, he did make a lot of people wear trucker hats.

Hexagram 20 is in some ways a sibling to the heedfulness of Hexagram 62 or the stillness of Hexagram 52. And given his life purpose reading, it's interesting that the Nuclear Hexagram that's a bit of a building block for Hexagram 20, is Hexagram 23 (Removal).

He knows what to let go of, and what not to say, just as much as he knows what to create and put into the world. And that's definitely a valuable strength to have.

I hope that the above gave you a deeper understanding of both, Pharrell and the I Ching.
