A seasonal change.

--

Check your Sidereal Rising and Moon signs below (and if you don't know them, but do know your birth date, time AND place, email me at kochisjohnathanj@gmail.com and I can get you your chart OR you can figure it out yourself here).

If you want to learn more about what this "transitional reading" I speak about is, please see my guide to divination with the I Ching here.

I have a free version of James Legge’s I Ching translation here. Also: For a free translation of the I Ching that I rely on (and I recommend if you want to see the lines that make up these readings), check this copy by the late, great, Bradford Hatcher.

How To Use The Yearly Horoscopes

You can read just for your Sidereal Rising and Moon signs, however, what I do (and what I recommend) is reading for each house in your chart. For example, as a Libra Rising, I would look at that horoscope for my 1st house topics for the year, Scorpio for my 2nd house topics, Sagittarius for my 3rd, etc.

The Horoscope For Everyone

Reading:

Hexagram 15.1.2.5 > 5

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 15.1 > 36.2 > 11.5 > 5

1) The Reality

The Three

Expect some waiting, and take some time as you dip your toes into commitment. Don't draw attention to yourself as you put to use an ejection seat, just make a small offering, and take control of the situation if the time calls for it. If you're really about it, make an investment now for a payoff later.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Expect the table to be flipped over ... with ease. What are you being reunited with, because it's something. Follow that event with some wisdom, though.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect to not get what was dreamt.

Don’t expect a build-up of repair.

The reward is taking the lead with attraction.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Be on your way. On your way to where? You'll know when your bags are packed, I'm sure

And try "practicing" as you're hit with what if's.

More And Less

Do more separating, and less things "accidentally."

Think what if instead of thinking about responding.

--

Aries Rising/Aries Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 13.1.2 > 44

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 13.1 > 33.2 > 44

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Commit to the journey that you *can't* bend to your will. You're at a threshold, so decide whether you're passing through the door. You may not want to let go, but a like-mind may be comforting to congregate around.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Expect things to fade, but it might leave you in front of a boulder. Write a little, even if it leads you into some conflict.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect a hurry for conception.

Don’t expect hesitation about the right direction.

The reward is a misunderstanding involving a teacher.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Pull back, even if it (of course) comes with a mess of mixed feelings.

Stillness is a good idea.

More And Less

Do more temptation, and less of what's childish.

Think surprise instead of forgetting.

The Experience

An example of this reading comes from 12/30/18, when I asked what I needed to know about working with Saint Cyprian. Saint Cyprian is a favorite Saint for magicians. Many praise him, and work with him in their practices, but flash forward a few years to 2021, and I can tell you that I never built a relationship with him. It never felt right. Santa Claus, and Saint Expedite are my go-to Saints (long story).

With this reading, you can describe it as "Like-Mindedness' Overindulgence." That doesn't sound that positive, right? With 13.1 you're in a place where you can choose to advance, or retreat, and 13.2 warns you about the dangers of associating with those you have a lot in common with (a magician associating with a magician Saint in this case). And I've found it can also tell you there's a need to have some consensus before making any changes. The transitional line of 33.2 isn't one I love to see (33.1 isn't too hot either, I should add). 33.2 tells you that you keep clinging to this and are having a hard time letting go (which was the case when *everyone* talked about working with the Saint).

With a Yang Pattern of 19, and a Yin Pattern of 33, it's a question of taking charge of things without going over your past successes, and the advice is to withdraw, or retreat, even if it's difficult. Ultimately, I did retreat, and I found the right crowd for myself when it comes to the Dead.

Taurus Rising/Taurus Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 59.6 > 29

-

1) The Reality

The Three

If life feels like the wake of multiple 'Friday The 13th' sequels, acknowledge it. And then surrender. The bad blood fades if you get some distance and stop creating more of it.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Depression is on the menu, and it comes with a side of regret. Have the meal, inspect it all, and keep your eyes open, so you see what you need to see.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect the permanence of a dream.

Don’t expect to accept imperfection.

The reward is a partnership’s solo-ing.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Good fences make good neighbors. And mountains make good fences. Keep some distance between yourself and what is draining.

And feel happiness over what you saw coming.

More And Less

Do more of what's fruitless, and less of what's ephemeral.

Think progress, and stop thinking about meetings.

The Experience

An example of this line comes from 10/3/20 when I asked if more sodium would solve all of my low carb electrolyte problems. Bradford Hatcher's translation of this line is as follows:

Dispersing one’s hot-bloodedness

Getting distance

Far away to reappear

No blame

I've seen others get this line in very literal situations where the question was related to the blood, or levels of things in the blood, and that's the case with this particular question.

With a relating hexagram of 29, there's some risk, and danger in the background of this answer. And there is if you've ever experienced electrolyte issues. But 59.6 is about getting out of an intense situation and getting some breathing room, rather than anything getting worse for you. More salt did solve a lot of problems for me, but the danger (29) was in experimenting with just how much more I needed.

Gemini Rising/Gemini Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 40.1.6 > 38

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 40.1 > 54.6 > 38

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Accept the tension, and the lack of eye-to-eye-ness, and know that it's not a mistake. If a mission pops up, get rid of whatever that current problem is, and appreciate that for what it is. But there may be a little old baggage, and a feeling that something's "missing" in an exchange.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

"Things" are weak, but the words and actions are convincing. If things are polarized, expect to be in the dark a bit.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect an easy investigation.

Don’t expect to hit the bullseye on truth.

The reward is avoiding a move.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

If there's a breaking point, know where you're going. And have something to offer when you get there.

Be generous, even if it's "malicious."

More And Less

Do more moving forward, and less with "rewards."

Think acceptance, and stop thinking "surrender."

The Experience

One example of this reading comes from 2/15/20 when I asked if I would be an "ancestral guide" when I die, becoming possibly the only person to ask the I Ching that question in all of human history.

As a sentence, this reading is "Freedom's Tension," or "Liberation's Tension." 40.1 tells you that there's no mistake in the translation, and I've seen that it can also tell you that you may have a higher purpose as things are changing. With 40.6 you're tackling a problem and getting temporary success, while 54.6 describes an exchange between you and another party or parties, that you may not have your full heart in. If I was answering my question with that, I'd say I might potentially help the living while I'm dead, but it doesn't seem to be a forever thing (what is?).

A Yang Pattern of 27 means this is a question of assessing what you're desiring, and the advice of Yin Pattern 28 is that you may not be getting what you expect, but things are too excessive to last, so get moving. All of that says to me that the forces that shape existence might have something else in mind for me when I'm done in this body.

Cancer Rising/Cancer Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 27.3.4.5 > 13

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 27.3 > 22.4 > 30.5 > 13

-

1) The Reality

The Three

If you're figuring out what's what, understand that you may be turning away from what was a source of nourishment. You won't make a mistake by following your stomach, but it may not be the meal you idealized in your mind. If you're reaching for fruit on a branch you never touched, try to get some clarity before you yank it off (but don't expect it to fall off on its own).

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

There's something here that didn't get to "complete." Stay humble, put a little magic into things, and make a sacrifice.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect an open-mind about an investigation

Don’t expect to hit the mark when it comes to happiness.

The reward is a change of mind about a death.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Give up (or offer up) something. Something valuable, a feeling that you're clinging to, you decide. But the year might decide for you, honestly.

Have wisdom about what's childish.

More And Less

Do more impermanence and less escaping.

Think about prayers rather than delaying.

The Experience

I don't have the perfect example for this reading, so we'll break it down into each part: As a sentence, this would be "Hunger's Like-Mindedness."

With 27.3, it's about the rejection of what had been nourishing, as things begin to be reassembled. 27.4 is all about pursuing what you crave, while 22.4 warns you to not idealize any connections you have in mind. With 27.5 you're beginning to pursue something out of the ordinary for yourself, and you should get some outside input before you make it happen. And finally, the transitional line of 30.5 can be about preparing for the worst, seeing things for what they are, and moving on.

With a Yang Pattern of 31, it's a question of pursuing what you're attracted to, and the advice is 41: give something up. With a reading like this, it feels like it's an "of two minds" situation. The head and the heart might in conflict. But with 41 and 30.5, it does seem to end with a letting go.

Leo Rising/Leo Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 28.1.3.5.6 > 38

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 28.1 > 43.3 > 58.5 > 54.6 > 38

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Expect friction, but just let it make you extra careful. Something is about to break, so decide what side of the line in the middle of the room you're going to move to. And if something old gets rekindled as a result, don't trust its sustainability if it seems like it has more superficiality than substance.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

If there's opposition, and something gets tapped out, accept the guilt that comes with it. But after the guilt will come some rest.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect magic to hit a bullseye.

Don’t expect deja vu involving a death.

The reward is the fruitlessness of conception.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

If there's a destination in mind get to it. But if you want to get back to doing what you've been doing, decide. There may be a time limit, so it's good to know what you want.

Your job is to deal with a resurrected temptation.

More And Less

Do more being receptive, and less forgetting.

Think separation instead of offers.

The Experience

I don't have an example of this reading to go by, so we'll break it down: As a sentence this would be "Great Excess' Tension." With 28.1 you need to take precautionary measures, while 28.3 tells you that something is at a breaking point. 43.3 tells you to do what you need to do, and face the consequences (because there will be consequences).

With 28.5, something older is rekindled, though, there may not be a lot of potential for future growth. The transitional line of 58.5 tells you of something similar: Don't trust in something that may not be built for the long haul. With 28.6, you're told that you're in over your head, but that it's not an error to be in this compromised position. And finally, 54.6 speaks of an exchange that may feel like it's ceremonial, rather than substantial.

With a Yang Pattern of 37, it's a question of having a role in a relationship that you need to play. With a Yin Pattern of 40, you're being told that you're "free" to an extent, and that if there's somewhere to go, then to go get it. As a whole the reading feels a lot like "I've gotten myself into this, and I've gotta make the most of it, even if it's overwhelming in some way." But "overwhelm" and "friction" can carry rewards sometimes, even if it's just for the experience of it all.

Virgo Rising/Virgo Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 55.2 > 34

-

1) The Reality

The Three

There's a build-up here, but the Magic 8 Ball might be a bit cloudy. If it's not an ideal fit, let the trust build a bit. You know how to do that.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Be open to learning, and beware of any ill-intentions. You may be confused, but there *will* be a completion.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect the forever-ness of a disagreement.

Don’t expect a partnership with a lover.

The reward is accepting selflessness.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Figure out what should go where, and how it should be done.

And make a practice out of meditation with your Virgo house.

More And Less

Do more avoidance, and less offering.

Think with an open-mind, and stop thinking about restraint.

The Experience

An example of this reading comes from 3/13/21, during an hour I spent asking the I Ching about what to expect from an upcoming Zoom call with a twitter follower who needed some advice about magic.

With 34 as the relating hexagram, it's telling you to follow the rules of the situation, even if it's not a perfect fit in some way, while 55.2 is about trying to grow trust between you and another, by proving yourself through actions, rather than words. This individual is someone I'm friendly with on Twitter, but you never quite know what to expect when speaking to someone face-to-face for the first time, so the line speaking to a little distrust is appropriate. Ultimately, the conversation did take place that day, and it went great, with knowledge going both ways. But if you get this line you can expect some "feeling each other out" time before you feel comfortable.

--

Libra Rising/Libra Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 5.2.5 > 36

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 5.2 > 63.5 > 36

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Don't say too much, even if others are doing a lot of talking. Or if the two sides of your brain are. If you go from waiting to choosing a less "mature" option, being sincere will benefit you more than making a big show of things.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

There's truth here, and it involves who you're partnering with. Things may reduce, and then you might wave the white flag.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect to have patience about a sabotage.

Don’t expect uncertainty over “balance.”

The reward is generosity involving truth.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Seeing things for what they are is your big job for the year. Even if it feels like danger lurks in the background.

And handle the conflict that comes along with imperfection.

More And Less

Do more persistence and less generosity.

Think gain, and stop thinking patience.

The Experience

One example of this reading comes from 4/29/21, when I asked my 2046 self what was the only thing I needed to know about getting a job with an magic-focused business I had applied to in the next 30 days. Long story short, the owner of the business was looking for contractors, rather than full-time employees, so it didn't happen. And the reading should've gave that way.

As a sentence, this reading would be "Waiting's Censorship." 5.2 can tell you that you're being discussed, while also being a descriptor of your inner dialogue (which obviously describes a job application process). 5.5 can indicate that you're going with a less mature option, and putting to use support that you have (a magic website would definitely be "less mature" than a background screening agency). The transitional line of 63.5 always tells you that even a modest offering can be successful if you're being genuine (and I did offer suggestions to assist the website, which likely fell on deaf ears).

The Yang Pattern is 29, and the Yin Pattern is 30. So, this is a question of there being some recurring danger in the situation, and it advises you to find clarity, in a time where you may be making a big sacrifice to overhaul things.

This wasn't really phrased in a way to get a clear answer on whether I'd actually *get* the job, but when you have "Waiting's Censorship" or alternatively, "Waiting's Suppression," the prospects aren't the hottest. But as advice, the reading was good. I had an interview, I put my best set of five toes forward, and ultimately, we both saw that it wasn't a good fit. And in retrospect, I'm glad it didn't happen. Which happens a lot in life, doesn't it?

Scorpio Rising/Scorpio Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 22 Unchanging (22 uc)

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Make sure the windows are clean, and clear, but don't try to redesign the kitchen. Superficial improvements will do. As well as moving in the direction of open palms.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Stay humble, and play it safe. There may be someone with more authority in the situation, and it all may end with something you didn't intend.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect to move forward selflessly.

Don’t expect to stop the sadness.

The reward is being a student of “not sure.”

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

"Superficial" has a bad reputation as a word, but the surface-level can be a make or break place. Try not to discount the benefit in improving appearances.

And accept the pointlessness of any meetings.

More And Less

Do more losing, and less with surprises.

Think rejection, and stop thinking about clinging.

The Experience

One example of this reading comes from 3/10/21, during an hour I spent handling some work tasks while creating mnemonics in my head for some Bazi astrology. With Hexagram 22 unchanging, it's important to remember to lower your ambitions a bit. Don't try to accomplish the world, and be sure to improve the "lighter" things rather than the deeper issues. Think: Choosing which art should go on the wall rather than getting all of the lead out of the walls. And doing "lighter" work tasks, while stringing together images in my mind to remember things that would change my life forever, is a great example of how a 22 unchanging reading can play out.

--

Sagittarius Rising/Sagittarius Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 64.3.5 > 44

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 64.3 > 50.5 > 44

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Something is too strong for you to plant your flag in, but commit to the voyage, and you'll understand what's right for you. Don't try to make a finish happen, just show your virtue and it'll be recognized. As things cook, know that there's a greater purpose to all of this, even if you're not seeing it now.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Keep the mania in check as you tend to unfinished business. If intimacy comes with it, be open to looking at it all with fresh eyes.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect delusion relating to study, or student(s).

Don’t expect disappointment involving a search.

The reward is accepting the lead.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Accept your differences. You may not agree about everything, but that never has to be the end of the world.

A gain may come in the form of an "enemy."

More And Less

Do more leading, and less returning.

Think "forever" instead of "right direction."

The Experience

One time that I had this reading was on 8/20/20 when I asked what would happen if I didn't create "The Pragmatic Oracle." What happened was I created "The Practical Oracle."

The reading as a whole could be called "Incompletion's Overindulgence." With 64.3 you're told to go on the journey, even if you don't know how it'll turn out, and 64.5 tells you to try to approve appearances, and your truth will be visible to others, but to avoid completing things. Hexagram is about something cooking, and transforming, and 50.5 tells you to be loyal to it, because there could be a greater purpose to it all.

I did commit to the journey (64.5), and refined the idea over time (64.5), and ultimately the greater purpose was the over 100 cards I now have, which I use multiple times a day to do readings. 44 is a good reminder that you're not controlling the course of things here. Whatever "it" is has too much power for that. And with a Yang Pattern of 39, and a Yin Pattern of 38, it's a question of an obstacle, and the advice is to deal with the tension an opposition that comes with it. And with 44 as the backdrop of the reading, there will always be some level of tension.

--

Capricorn Rising/Capricorn Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 43.3.4 > 60

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 43.3 > 58.4 > 60

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Things are a little limited, but decide which direction you're going in, even if it comes with a downpour. What you don't know can bruise, so it's best to let yourself be led when possible. Learn from the past if you're thinking about pleasure, and don't let your cleverness make things too dangerous for yourself.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Follow along, even if it leads you into darkness, and the cluelessness that comes with it. Have some discussions, negotiate a bit, and decide who you will and won't partner with.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect happiness over a sigil

Don’t expect guilt over imperfection.

The reward is the immaturity of a build-up.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Make what you know already a reality. It might be hard if it comes with rain clouds, but sometimes the water can bring you back to life.

But besides that, your job may be malice to go along with what's missed.

More And Less

Do more focusing, and less with any "good ideas."

Think persuasion instead of inspiration.

The Experience

One example of this reading comes from 4/22/21, when I woke up and didn't see an email waiting for me that I was hoping for (definitely part of the restrictions shown with hexagram 60). I said my prayers, and went to work (very relevant to 43.3's "presuming the worst" and "all alone in advancing, to greet the rain" that comes with gainful employment on a Thursday).

The transitional line of 58.4 can be about a little anxiety, and looking at the past in any discussion before deciding whether to go with something. And 43.4 advises you to let yourself be led, because you may not have quite the grasp on things that you need. Those last two lines have some relevance because when I got to work I talked to a team member about the time he was planning to take off, and how we could make it work. In a sense, I did need to be led, because it required me knowing what he was intending, and the time off he needed to make it all work for both sides.

The Yang Pattern here is 62, and the Yin Pattern is 61. So it's a question of being extra careful, extra humble, extra conscientious, and the advice (61), is that there may be some truth here, but it still needs to be brought to fruition to be anything more than an idea. Action is required. Since this was a reading for my hour, it could have been both about that email I was hoping for, as well as the plans of my team member that I was helping to turn into something concrete. But as you can see, the restrictions that hexagram 60 always describes really was the backdrop for the hour.

Aquarius Rising/Aquarius Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 46.3.5 > 29

Transitional Reading:

Hexagrams 46.3 > 7.5 > 29

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Things are risky, even if it looks "all clear" ahead. Temper yourself if it's easy, and take things step by step before committing. Decide whether you'll continue to carry the past, or if you'll move towards a new future, but know that your decision might have some staying power.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Be a student, and the lessons that come with that could bring happiness. Keep your focus, and in the end you might find a household of some sort.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect silence when it comes to any negotiating.

Don’t expect a gain to be imperfect.

The reward is a meeting of lower-rank.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Put what you know about balancing egos into effect. Including balancing your own.

Your job may be a change of crowd involving a betrayal.

More And Less

Do more friendship, and less temptation.

Think "dead end" instead of "detached."

The Experience

One example of this reading comes from 7/25/21, during an hour where I began going through my newly culled twitter lists, thinking about curation being a strategy in business, and thinking about a future business idea related to the occult and business strategy. 46.3 is a line that speaks about pushing through to an empty town, and it was quite literal with so many of my lists having less members (for the sake of my sanity). 46.5 likely described the step by step evolution in thinking that came from that experience, to thinking about my personal career future. And 7.5 often tells you that you can stick with the past, or push forward to the future, which was relevant with my new setup.

Hexagram 29 as the context here describes a source of danger. And isn't that always the case with social media? Though, I suppose the danger could have also been trimming (or "curating") my lists a little too much.

--

Pisces Rising/Pisces Moon

Reading:

Hexagram 62.5 > 31

-

1) The Reality

The Three

Change may not be on the way, so figure out your priorities. Reduce the scope, limit the options. Aiming for less makes success more likely for you this year.

The Practical Oracle Adds ...

Be open to things, even if you start off blocked. Peace will arrive, as well as whatever you were separated from.

Will And Won’t And Win

Expect a commitment to be fated.

Don’t expect a surprise good idea.

The reward is what’s in progress getting closer.

2) How You Should Shape It

The Prescription

Make the most out of what you have, and pursue what attracts you. But balance that with a little extra care and caution.

And focus on a good idea around salvation.

More And Less

Do more being tempted, and less getting rid of.

Think that this is the peak, and stop thinking about surprises.

The Experience

One time I had this reading was on 7/25/20 when I asked if I "attained stream winning" that night. In retrospect, it's a funny, and ridiculous question. In Buddhism, "stream winning" is essentially when you find yourself caught in the water that will eventually wash you down the drain of Nibbana. It means that you're on the path to Nibbana, that once you're caught in it, all you need are some more rebirths to finally get extinguished, along with all of those pesky desires.

I don't want to speculate that this reading means I achieved it, because the most straightforward reading for that outcome would be something like 63 unchanging. But I think this reading does say pursue (31) the outcome you want, but do less, and aim for less here to have success (62.5). With 62.5, if it's a specific outcome you want, prioritize it, and accept the trade-offs that come with it.

Your Sidereal-I Ching Horoscopes For 2024

Your Sidereal-I Ching Horoscopes For 2022
